Our Story
From a Small Room to a Thriving Institution
Hercor College was born in September 2003, when founder Mr. Jose A. Hernandez gathered a small, passionate team in a modest room at the back of the former Lawaan office of lending in Roxas City, Capiz. Together with Ms. Lerry B. Basamot, Vivian D. Blancaflor, Sheila S. Alba, Salvacion C. Sibonga, and his two children Maria Cristina and Jose Gabriel, he set out to build a school that would make quality education accessible to every Filipino family.
From the very beginning, the vision was clear: deliver world-class education at an affordable cost. This commitment became the college's enduring philosophy — "The Best for Less." To back that promise, the school invested in modern facilities from day one, including a multi-purpose gym, a computer laboratory, a mini hotel for hospitality training, and a fully equipped judo and taekwondo gym.
When Hercor College officially opened for School Year 2004–2005, it offered four CHED-recognized baccalaureate programs — BS Computer Science, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, BS Business Administration, and BS Criminology — alongside two TESDA courses. The response from the community was overwhelming, and enrollment targets were exceeded in the very first year.
Growth came rapidly. The original Riverside Campus reached full capacity within two years, prompting the construction of a second campus in Lawaan. As the K-12 program took shape nationally, Hercor established its own High School Department, and later added the College of Education offering Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education.
After the untimely passing of founder Mr. Jose Hernandez in December 2013, leadership first transitioned to Ms. Maria Cristina Hernandez-Syching as President and Mr. Jose Gabriel J. Hernandez as Executive Vice President. Today, the institution is under the capable leadership of Mr. Jose Gabriel J. Hernandez, who now serves as School President. Under his stewardship, Hercor College continues to expand its academic offerings, strengthen its faculty, and deepen its commitment to holistic, values-driven education — carrying forward the founder's enduring legacy of making world-class education accessible to all.
